iPad 3 Retina Display Resolution Compared to iPad 2 and iPhone 4(4S)

It’s that magical time of year again, when everyone expects Apple’s third generation iPad 3 to be right around the corner. According to a report by the tech website, AllThingsD Apple will be holding an event in March and according to a TechCrunch report the device is likely to see a much higher screen higher resolution or“Retina” display.

The report adds,

The first two iPads had a resolution of 1024 x 768… The new iPad will have a resolution of 2048 x 1536. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Apple was now requiring developers to submit Retina-level screenshots of their apps to the App Store.

If the iPad 3 does feature a 2048 x 1536 resolution display, that would mean that you would be able to video a full HD movie on the iPad’s 9.7 inch display and also other content at the same time, which certainly sounds impressive. To help convey just how large that is comes an image below from clkoerner that compares the rumored iPad 3 resolution to other common resolutions, including the prior iPad and iPad 2, original iPhones, retina iPhone 4(and 4S), and a Blu-ray full HD 1080p movie.

As you can see from the illustration, the reported iPad 3 resolution is significantly different to the existing model, basically double in size, lets hope that the iPad 3 does featured this rumored Retina display when it launches in March.
