Now, iPad gets a Jailbreak Solution

George Hotz — a hacker responsible for one of the original iPhone unlocks, and jailbreaking efforts like blackra1n — claims to have developed a less complicated method of jailbreaking Apple devices. Unlike current techniques, the new approach does not require a tethered connection to a computer. It also remains software-only, and “as simple to use as blackra1n,” according to Hotz.

Hotz (Geohot) sent an update through his Twitter account about the video showing new solution to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 based devices. Here’s what Hotz wrote on his blog:

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models (ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.

An untethered jailbreak means one won’t have to jailbreak the iPhone OS device every time its battery dies or there’s a need to reboot the device. What’s surprising is Hotz’s claim that his solution will also jailbreak iPad which is yet to be available in retail.
